Almost like grandma's... almost

For our Black Forest vacation, we stayed in an apartment belonging to Rita and Hans. It was the upstairs level of their home, fully furnished with a kitchen, two bedrooms, living room, dining room, and one and a half bathrooms. It was such a fun experience staying with this fun German couple. I decided to post a few pictures of our time in the apartment.

Here I am with Rita and Hans. Rita gave the kids candy bars and let them come into her apartment to pet her little dog. She was kind and welcoming:

Hans is a hunter. There were a few of these guys stuffed in the hallway:

Hand-crocheted wash cloths, 1960's tile, and plastic fruit made the place feel very grandmothery... if that makes any sense. There were also many breakables behind glass cabinet doors. We kept the kids out of the living room except to sleep.

The view from Rita's home was breath-taking:

We could hear this electric fence humming behind Rita's home:

We stayed in a tiny little town. Here is a view of the town from a distance:

One evening in the apartment, the kids decided to put on a concert. They took turns lip-syncing to the iPod. Every single photo was blurry, but the memories from this trip are still clear as day. Love these kids!

I'm sure you've guessed. In the last picture the girls are singing "Call me Maybe." I have forbidden them from singing that song in front of me ever again because it gets stuck in my head and the lyrics are so, so dumb and repetitive. Ahhh! Just typing this put them back in my head. "I just met you and this is crazy...." Yep, I'm going crazy...

Ugh...I need to have some older kids so I can be cool and know what songs are "in." Ha ha. That is so good that you got a picture with her! And I agree, very grandmotherly. But so fun. And beautiful! Wow. Dusty made me touch an electric fence at the house we stayed at in France. Sadie kept touching it and it didn't do anything. But I got zapped.
