Instead of heading straight home from Poland, we stopped off in Dresden, Germany to see the city and experience the Christmas Market. We had heard many times that Dresden was a beautiful city. Boy, was it ever!
The view above is what we saw as we were walking toward the down town area. Man! I wish I had my tripod with me!
I found myself lagging behind everyone in an attempt to get photos:
There were thousands of these birds in the trees above as well as flying in the air. It looked pretty cool, but I was suddenly wishing I had never seen Alfred Hitchcock's movie The Birds:
Good thing I had this big strong man there to keep me safe. Or to laugh at me. I'm pretty sure he did more of the latter:
It started getting dark, and all the lights on the buildings came on. The architecture was impressive. I can't wait to come back when it's warmer and learn more about it. But this trip was all about the Christmas market:
Erick stopped to get treats for everyone. Here is Bailey showing how happy she is to eat this cookie:
Finally, we made it to the market. It was very crowded. And with a group of eight, it was very difficult to stick together. So we divided up. Mom took Joey and Bailey. Dad went off alone. Erick and I took the boys. We agreed to a time and a meeting place, and off we went:
David was pretty much done for the day. He cried a lot and wanted attention. It was a little tough to appease him amid the crowds.
TJ was pretty easy to appease. It just took some bribery:
I hate crowds. I especially hate crowds when I'm trying to keep track of children. But I really enjoyed taking pictures of this market. It was a real piece of German Christmas magic:
As we were headed back to the car, we saw a nativity set in the window of a shop. I loved it. We found out from the store owner that it was made in Germany and is a traditional style unique to Freistaat Sachsen (Saxony in English). Saxony is a state of Germany just like Bavaria. And Dresden is the capital of that state.
We bought it. We had to rearrange the Christmas decorations at home a bit to make it fit. But I love it!
I did not put the angel on the letter 'o,' but I have taken her down many, many times. Bailey prefers having the angel in the air. Funny girl.
And if you get a chance to see Dresden, go. It was a beautiful city.

This post made me smile. I used to stick the Angels up when I was Bailey's age too, I just figured it made more sense for them to be in the air, drove my mom crazy.
I have that same nativity set but mine came with a little barn surround but no angel. I wish I had the angel instead, she is super cute:)
That first picture is A-MAZING. Your landscapes are so awesome. You definitely have a gift! And really, the angel should be in the air. It just makes sense. :)
