Last weekend, our family went camping with the ward. It was just one night, but we decided that just wasn't enough, so we threw our equipment into the van and continued our camping adventure for two more nights in the Alps:
This was the first time Erick and I have ever gone camping together. Isn't that crazy!? We both love camping. We both grew up camping. We have been married 11 years (on Thursday). I can't believe it has taken us this long. I have taken the kids camping with cousins and grandparents, but Erick wasn't able to join us. So glad we could finally have this experience together. It was awesome!
The campground we used is owned and operated by Edelweiss Lodge and Resort, so we could have used the pool and all the amenities of the resort close by. But we were too busy camping and exploring to waste time with things like massages or pedicures. Ha ha.
Of course I forgot to pull out my camera for the important things like roasting marshmallows, but I did catch us in the tent in the middle of an intense game of Uno. If you're wondering about the hats, the first night was very cold. Erick taught us that we will stay much warmer through the night if we sleep with beanies. He was right:
On our first night, we knew it would take too long to set up camp, get a fire going, and cook a dinner before the kids were starving, so we went out to eat at this little gem:
Really. The food was delicious. I documented a lot of our meals on this trip because even though it may completely bore you, I figure I'll enjoy remembering the German food we ate while we lived here. Years from now when we live back in the land of the cheeseburger, I will get excited looking at my yummy Schnitzel with mushrooms and Spätzle. Soooo good:
TJ just got Spätzle with gravy. He shared his with David:
Here is Erick's meal. Steak with mushrooms and fries (obviously my meal was the best):
I can't remember what the girls got. Probably child-sized Schnitzel. Joey LOVES Schnitzel and orders it ALL THE TIME.
Erick surprised us all by ordering three Apfelstrudel desserts to share. Yum!
I like this type of camping!
